Producer and percussionist, Jim Roberts has been fascinated with music and percussion since he was a kid. He still keeps the kid as a part of his art! He performs with instruments from all over the world including, West African Djembe, Cuban Cajon, Middle Eastern Dumbek and Brazilian Panderio. Through the use of various timbres of the instrument, Jim is able to function as a drum set player without using a drum set by using a combination of deep, middle and high pitched tones covering the total sound spectrum. As a producer, Jim is always trying to create new textures and colors to give music a visceral and visual experience. He has recorded diversed styles such as African, Afro-pop, Bluegrass, Rock, Alternative, Cuban, experimental electronica and others. Jim has produced, engineered and performed on numerous projects and has 4 of his own projects offered here. Two Traditions Balaphon, Banjo, Fiddle, and Drum was released in 1999 and features the Horse Flies. His 1998 release, Ancient Hand ~ Tranze is the Danze is a multicultural exploration of sound, color and groove, featuring Beth Nielson Chapman and Victor Wooten. Yemaya from Ancient Hand appears on Beth's release Prism. Currently, Jim is performing with Craicdown, a World Americana trio with interconnecting styles of America, Africa, South America, Europe and Asia. Their new CD presented here is called Roads. More biography and purchasing information is available at JimRobertsPercussion.com He has recorded and performed with artists Victor Wooten and Futureman, both members of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. He appears on Victor's solo projects, "What Did He Say" and "Ying Yang" and Futureman's, "The Seemless Script". Jim has also worked with Shane Theriot (Neville Brothers, LeAnn Rimes), The Horse Flies, and Jan Pulsford (Cindi Lauper, Thompson Twins). Jim presently continues production work out of his studio in Chapel Hill, NC after residing in Nashville for 11 years and teaches drum set/percussion at Elon University.
