Hey Guy
Aptly named after an attention seeking exclamation, Hey Guy grabs listeners, inside and out. Brainchild of classically trained, compelling and charismatic singer/songwriter Boris Pelekh, Hey Guy is a rare modern rock act that pairs haunting melodies and fierce stage energy with infectious humor. Among the diverse influences coursing through Hey Guy's veins, remain marks of Mother Russia -- birthplace of Boris + brother/bassist Leo Pelekh -- embodied in brooding brows and bold intellects that mold the intense, innovative music and media at the heart of Hey Guy. Hey Guy's talent and personality is bookended by their well-reputed musicianship, audible in each carefully crafted note, and their insatiable appetite for the absurd. Thriving within this range, Hey Guy defines their own genre as "serious music with a sense of humor." On the serious side of their spectrum, Hey Guy believes in giving back before getting. Major advocates of pre-fame philanthropy, this year, Hey Guy launched a NY pilot project -- ROCK GOOD -- that enlists local musicians to participate in charitable concerts + activities that aim for global impact. Hey Guy also floods the atmosphere + airwaves daily w/ their infamous social joy device -- "you're perfect." -- a pure, viral word pairing that gives immediately to everyone who gets it and delivers a reminder good for all. Even with the lighter notes, Hey Guy lays the hilarity on heavy, constantly dishing fresh angles on their signature sandwich-humor, creating mock/cover videos of pop hits, and inviting resident band members to rock onstage. One adored music video for their cover of Alliyah's "Are You That Somebody?" was endorsed by Lady Gaga, who's "Telephone" collaboration w/ Beyonce even paid tribute to Hey Guy's sandwich obsession. Masters of yet another balancing act, Hey Guy's first album -- Hey Guy 1 -- garnered the attention and acclaim of top producers and fellow rockers for its musicality fitting perfectly between emotionally accessible and expertly technical. Among them: the infamous JIMI HAHA of Jimmie's Chicken Shack -- "one of the coolest bands I've played with!" -- and GORDON RAPHAEL, mentor and producer of The Strokes. Riding Hey Guy's pendulum swings, from musicality to mayhem, intensity to insanity, is worth the brain cells, get on.
